LeaderCamp 2010: Making It Happen


As exciting as it is to talk about big ideas, effective educational leaders are the ones who make things happen. LeaderCamp will be a unique opportunity to connect with other leaders who are actively leading change and exploring how the world of school can be different. They collaborate with all levels of leadership and openly foster a culture of innovation in their organizations.


Everyone has something to share and the first ever LeaderCamp will be your opportunity to share your successes and tap into the successes of other leaders. Discuss tools and tactics, and uncover what's worked and what hasn't.


What we know so far...

  • The event will take place virtually on Thursday, June 24, 2010, from 11am to 2:30pm EDT (1500 to 1830 UTC).
  • The theme idea came from this Tweet by Dave Meister.
  • Come one, come all. This will be an event for anyone from superintendents to teacher-leaders; from school board members to PTA parents. Don't be shy.
  • There will be no submitting/reviewing/accepting of session proposals. It's too time-consuming and too exclusive. Plus, that's not an "unconference."
  • We want to be inclusive of all ideas so bring your topics and claim a breakout session.
  • Other than a rough schedule of session start and end times [coming soon...], there will be no overly-restrictive, pre-organized agenda.
  • We will follow an unconference agenda-creation style, most likely beginning the Monday before the event, using an as-yet-to-be-determined medium (not GoogleWave).
  • All topics are not the same size so all sessions should not be the same size. Right now, we're looking at a 45-minute session, a 30-minute session, and two 10-minute "micro" sessions.
  • We're also working on the logistics of an Ignite/TED-style session where interested participants can share an idea, tool, or success story in 2 minutes or less.
  • If you're going to ISTE Leadership Bootcamp, you can start the party two days early. If you're not planning to attend ISTE, or if your session didn't get accepted at ISTE, or if you have no idea what ISTE is or why you'd want to attend, you can still enjoy a great, virtual, collaborative PD experience this summer!
  • This is gonna be awesome.

If any people here are close by to Philadelphia, I hope they'll consider going to edcamp philly, which is going to be a live, in-person unconference, on May 22, 2010!
